Steps To Training A Horse – Gentle Horse Training

Training a horse should be founded on a trusting relationship. It will be difficult to train a horse if the animal lacks trust toward its trainer. After developing a relationship of trust, here are the next steps to training a horse:

Again, the first step is getting to know the horse and letting the horse get to know you. To properly train a horse you have to think like a horse. Put yourself in the horse’s shoes, and keep in mind that training should be done in small steps. Behave like a leader and treat the animal with respect, and you will find that the horse will eventually learn to follow you.
You have to start with the basics and practice commands that the horse is already familiar with. Begin with basic ground manners. Take it one step at a time and never try to rush the horse into learning too much too quickly. When you add new commands, do so slowly. Train your horse using positive encouragement rather than using forceful scare tactics.
A young horse can be taught to lunge. It can also be taught voice commands such as walk on, trot, canter, and whoa. Use a lunge line that is a minimum of 25 feet long and only lunge for short periods of time. The voice commands will be your greatest asset later when you’re ready to ride. You can also train your horse to bridle by using a simple headstall with a snaffle bit and not reins. Use a sugar cube to encourage him to open his mouth for the bit. Once the horse is comfortable lungeing, ground drive him, using two lunge lines and a surcingle.
These steps to training a horse will provide a guideline for giving your animal a lifetime of learning and pleasant experiences.

Online horse games are very popular. Girls do love horse games but they are popular even among little boys which might be surprising to some people. Little girls like ponies very much and having a real pony is not an option for everyone. The variety of horse games is endless, some are very silly while others are very good and have good graphics and music otherwise they would not be so popular. Here are some of the types of horse games which can be played online:
Horse dress up games – these horse games are for really young kids and mostly girls. If you thought that girls only like to dress up their Barbies and play tea party with them, you were wrong. Apparently they like to dress up horses too. These games allow you to choose the horse or pony of your own colour; pink, purple and bright red are very popular. You have to dress them up, try various accessories on them and make them prettier. Some of the popular dress up games are: Bella Sara Beautybox, Bratz Little Pony, Cowgirl Sweetie, Dream Horse, Dress Up Horse, Fantasy Unicorn & Fairy, French Horse Designer, Horse Dress Up, Horse Maker etc.
Horse riding games – these games are categorized as horse riding games simply because there is a horse riding in them. The horse is a cartoon which can do anything, not just regular horse things. Those games are very funny and would surely make you laugh out loud. Those games are a mix between horse racing games, horse jumping games and simple horse walking games. Example of those games could be: Big Country Fun, Charger Escape, Horse Athletics, Super Horse, Horse Rancher, Lisa and Bandit, Nicki’s Roundup, Penny’s Courageous Ride, The Jump Off and many more.
Horse jumping games – as the name suggests in these games the main objective is to jump your horse over various obstacles. Jumping horse games are more popular than any other type of horse games. There are different backdrops and stories in these games. In some of those games you have to jump your horse in a forest or in a road show while in other games you are a bandit and you have to escape from the cops. Examples of great horse jumping games are: Forest Ride, Horse Show Jumping, Jump Off, Hurdle Race, Jigsaw Jump Off, Jumporama 1 and Horse Jumping.
Horse racing games – car racing games are not the only form of racing games out there. Horses were the mean racing machines before cars were invented. These horse racing games are pretty straight forward; you have to race your horse and win. Different backdrops and game angles are provided like racing a thoroughbred, a chariot or a sock pony which makes the games even more interesting.
Virtual horse games – virtual games are the lengthiest games and if you have time you could spend hours playing them. In these games you have to manage horses, breed them, provide them with shelter and food, train them and take them to horse shows. These horse games are good for those who would like to own a horse but wouldn’t have the time to take proper care of them. Some of those virtual games are: A Virtual Horse, Bellasara Club, Pony Pals, Equine Ranch, Horse Tycoon, My Horse Club, MyStable, Ponybox etc.

Toe Protection for Horse Riding Boots – is it Necessary?

Any horse rider that has been unfortunate enough to have an equine friend carefully place their hoof onto their foot will tell you how much of an unpleasant experience it is! It is considered an occupational hazard that if you work with horses you will occasionally be trodden on, but yet although in other industries where there is a hazard of damage to the feet, steel toe cap boots are mandatory, this is not yet the case in the equine industry. This being said, there are a growing number of manufacturers who have recognised the importance of toe protection in horse riding boots and have begun to integrate this is into their products.
The truth is that steel toes inside horse riding boots are a sensible idea. It only takes a second to cause a painful injury which, if you are lucky, will only be a nice bruise that will be sore for a few days but could also result in fractured or broken toes. If horses are your livelihood, whether you work with or ride them, a foot injury can cause a very big problem. Trying to handle any horse whilst hopping around with a broken toe or fractured foot is at best difficult and at worst downright dangerous. Furthermore, it is likely that you will require a number of days out of the saddle, or at least on light riding duties as pressure of your feet in the stirrup is going to be painful or impossible. Also, a fracture to the foot could alter the weight distribution across it which will escalate to the entire limb, actually affecting your position in the saddle. If you ride horses for a living, consider the implications of having to take time off work due to such an injury and furthermore, think about the long term damage of a foot injury. Broken toes could become arthritic in later years, or suffer with poor circulation leading to discomfort when working outdoors in the winter.
If you are looking for boots with toe protection for wearing around horses, then it is advisable to buy a pair of boots that are specifically designed for horse riding. This is because there are some slight differences between traditional steel toe capped boots and those used for horse riding. Of course there are some obvious differences, and if you will be wearing your boots also for riding as well as yard work then it goes without saying that they must be horse riding boots. But even if you only intend to use the boots for working around horses, the horse riding boots with toe protection have been tested and designed specifically to withstand pressure of a horse. In particular, one of the main properties and differences is that such horse riding boots are tested to withstand pressure on soft ground, which traditional steel toe cap shoes don’t. This means that when you are in the field and get trodden on, the sole of the shoe won’t give way.
Overall, toe protection in horse riding boots is becoming more popular, and certainly the next time your horsey friend quietly stamps on your foot, you will be glad of the protection (or wish that you had it!). Whilst perhaps less necessary for people who only ride and do not handle horses, it is something worth considering for the others who deal with horses on a regular basis.
