i dont have the money to own a horse so i am considering leasing. The horse i want to lease i a bay eight year old gelding named skyler. he is a real show boy but i almost want to hold off untill i have enough money to buy a horse….any thoughts?

And also horse learning too. I know he did scientific studies and found the different gaits but my trainer said he learned a lot from him. And he wanted me to try and watch some video’s online but I can’t find any. Also I only found Monte Foreman’s Horse-Training Science book but that was it. So how can I find more books and videos about Monte Foreman? And also any other videos and books great for beginners, but nothing childish, would be great. :D Thanks so much!

My horse riding lessons at UPM equine centre.

Colors of the Wind “Pokey” 13.1 5yr old Welshxpaint Mare. Shows in: Childrens Ponies, Jr Eq Im not going to brag about the ribbons we have won, Thats not the point. The point is she is perfect, in every single little possible way. To me. and I love her to the point that our bond is unexplainable. We have our bad days, but also those days where we could conqure the world. I have owned pokey now for 3 yrs. In those three years I have cried my eyes out, laughed my heart out, but also learned so much. I wouldn’t take it back for the world. I love my pony, and everything about her. She has taught me to ride, to have fun, to trust, and most of all to love horses for what they are, not what you want them to be. I love how people go to the barn and want to ride ride ride. Owning a horse is not about riding, its about loving one another and forming an unbreakable bond. And she has taught me that. So, Pokey is my superpony(: This year she will be doing the Pony Jumpers , so wish us luck(:

Some people have no business owning a horse

Monica is a fifteen year old girl with a passion for horses and big dreams! Lilly is a six year old, 1/2 blind, Paint mare. Lilly was very green when I first found her, and has provided many challenges. But with dedication and some Parelli savvy – we’ve really come far! This video was taken this summer. A bit about where I am riding- well, we’ve been riding bridless in the pasture since last Christmas. Then this spring we rode completely bridless in a group of about seven other students. And after practicing in this open area with a halter for a while, I decided that we would ride without a halter. (lots of proper preparation!) And while she’s not quite as sensitive as she is in the pasture, she still seizes to amaze me! Lilly was also featured in one of the Parelli Savvy Times Magazines for the Partner Profiles section. A lot of people get into the horse business or horse ownership as a “family” thing. The generations before them had horses, and now they too own horses. I’m sure most of their knowledge comes from learning by hand.

But some other people (like myself) do not get this opportunity. My grandparents owned horses, but my parents did not. So that “hands-on” learning that goes on for generations stopped.
Right now I’m still in High School but plan on owning a horse or more in the future. I’ve taken equine science/management classes, and work with large animals like cattle (not that their care is alike!).
And as weird as it sounds- I think I am going too far with learning and reasearch.

So have you horse owners learned what you know from childhood, learned about the subject then got into horses, or just got horses and learned as you go?
